  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context:
    • The Magis invites us to look beyond what is simply good and seek what is in service of the greater good; the choice that serves more deeply, more universally, more fully. Let’s take a moment to reflect on how this has shown up in our own lives.
  • Prompt: Take a moment of reflection to remember a time when you faced two good paths and felt drawn toward what would be most in service of the greater good.
  • Questions:
    • What moved within you (the interior movements) initially as you discerned the greater good in that moment?
    • What was the interior movement once you made the decision?
    • How did choosing that path enrich our ability to discern the Magis and hear God better?
    • How might that same spirit of discernment guide us in the choices we face as a community?

  • Once you click the link, hit “S” on your keyboard to pop-up presenter notes.
  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context: The Magis invites us to offer our best, but not to lose ourselves in the chase. Growth, ambition, and drive are a beautiful gift, but they’re meant to be held in balance with gratitude. Let’s reflect on how we hold those tensions in our own lives.
  • Questions:
    • How does grounding ourselves in the spirit of the Magis shape the way we strive?
    • When have you pushed yourself to achieve more, but purposefully from a place of genuine gratitude?
    • Where might we be invited this week to lean more deeply into gratitude?

  • Once you click the link, hit “S” on your keyboard to pop-up presenter notes.
  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context:
    • Through our work and in our behaviors, we have a preference for stability and predictability (low change). The Magis is an invitation to the greater good, not the comfortable good. We may need to open our hearts and listen to where God is calling us to step towards newness.
  • Prompt: “Our only desire and our one choice should be this: I want and I choose what better leads to the deepening of God’s life in me.”
  • Questions:
    • How do our tendencies for predictability and stability help us to choose what better leads to the deepening of God’s life in us?
    • When does stability create space for discernment?
    • Where do our desires for predictability and stability disrupt our ability to choose what better leads to the deepening of God’s life in us?
    • When have you held onto the familiar even when the greater good asked for something new?

  • Once you click the link, hit “S” on your keyboard to pop-up presenter notes.
  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context:
    • Through many of our behaviors (high endurance), we are persistent to get things done. The Magis invites us to not just do more, but to bring more depth into what we already do.
  • Prompt: Isaiah 29:13 “These people draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
  • Questions:
    • When have you relied on your endurance to complete a task quickly?
    • How did that limit your ability to go deeper?
    • When have you engaged with something deeply rather than doing it to get it done?

  • Once you click the link, hit “S” on your keyboard to pop-up presenter notes.
  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context: We are a part of a greater society with roles that ask us to support others. While great, this can also turn our acts of support into obligation (the first degree of humility) rather than an act that is freely chosen (the third degree of humility).
  • Prayer: I will beg God our Lord for grace that all my intentions, actions, and operations may be directed purely to the praise and service of His Divine Majesty.
  • Questions:
    • When have you been in a space of interior freedom to authentically desire to support others?
    • What attachments might limit that interior freedom?
    • Where might good intentions in our support become habits of obligation?

  • Once you click the link, hit “S” on your keyboard to pop-up presenter notes.
  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context: We are invited to live the Magis by going deeper into who we and others are becoming (formation), beyond the surface of what we produce.
  • Prompt: 2 Corinthians 4:18 – “We look not at what can be seen, but at what cannot be seen.
  • Questions:
    • When have you focused on the performance of others (whether student or staff) and missed an opportunity to invest more deeply in their formation?
    • When have you seen slow, unseen formation bear lasting fruit?

  • Once you click the link, hit “S” on your keyboard to pop-up presenter notes.
  • Jesuit Principle: Magis
  • Context:The Ignatian Presupposition calls us to assume the good in others. Living this well requires the interior freedom and self-confidence to discern how and when to speak, or to listen, in service of the greater good.
  • Prompt: Ignatian Presupposition – Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give good interpretation to another’s statement than to condemn it.
  • Questions:
    • When have you spoken up, even with uncertainty, because you believed it mattered for the greater good? (For those with low self-confidence)
    • When have you chosen to listen, rather than assert, because deeper wisdom was needed? (for those with higher self-confidence)
    • How might greater self-confidence rooted in Ignatian presupposition allow us to communicate with more humility and care?
