Foundations – Thoughts Matter

Context

In the first Step Back Session of the foundation series, we explore on of the fundamental components of mental skills training. We start the conversation by bringing awareness to the idea that our responses to events are influenced by our thoughts and perceptions. This is why we act differently from others and from moment to moment, succeed in some cases and lose in others, and many more. The muscle between the ears is constantly at work.

Outcome

To learn that our thoughts influence our responses,
Reframe our thoughts to lead to the responses we want.

Main Questions

Why might we each have different responses to the same event?
When does it feel like thinking is absent and we just sort of “react” in our response?
What feelings (emotionally and physically) will allow me to perform well?
